Comment piece from Peter Arnold, CEO Newcastle Science City - July 2010

Since our last update, the city region has received further unsettling economic news in the form of confirmation of One North East’s replacement, and a Budget that represents the tip of the spending cuts iceberg, ahead of autumn’s Comprehensive Spending Review.

To echo Paul Walker’s thoughts from last month, however, the North East’s science and technology sector has every reason to remain confident and pragmatic, provided we commit to meaningful collaboration. Whether we’re joining...

Kromek Spotlight - An interview with Arnab Basu

This month Arnab Basu, co-founder and CEO of Kromek, provides his view on the challenges ahead for the region’s science & technology sector.

News feared by many for months – the replacement of One North East – was announced and George Osborne’s emergency Budget firmly reinforced the era of austerity we are entering, while also offering capital gain incentives to new entrepreneurs.

We face a challenge, undoubtedly, but the North East has overcome serious economic obstacles before.

Businesses based on science, technology and innovation are perhaps the...
