The Newcastle Science City Team are passionate about the city's vision to become one of the world's premier science locations. To do this we work with partners across Newcastle and North East England to ensure that we are best placed to capitalise upon the region's strengths and deliver new jobs, businesses and prosperity from science.
Here's just a flavour of how each of our roles support the realisation of this vision:

Dr Peter Arnold, Chief Executive
Scientifically educated at Cardiff and York Universities Peter has significant experience in commercial, business development and corporate R&D change and has created a number of technology businesses.
Peter took up his position as Chief Executive of Newcastle Science City in June 2008, and brings significant experience to the role as a senior research and development leader.

Phil Pattison, Finance Director & Company Secretary
Phil is a seasoned finance professional having worked for numerous blue chip companies in senior roles including; General Electric (GE), Rolls-Royce plc, Marks and Spencer plc and Northern Rock plc.
As Finance Director and Company Secretary of Newcastle Science City, his responsibilities include ensuring strong financial reporting and corporate governance.
Estelle Chatard, Programme Director
Estelle has been contributing her expertise in commercialisation, technology transfer and high-growth enterprise support to Newcastle Science City since March 2006.
As a Programme Director, she is responsible for the management of the ambitious Newcastle Science City objectives and targets and the strategic planning for Newcastle Science City.
Before joining the Newcastle Science City team, Estelle was Deputy Head of the City Technology Office, where she managed a wide range of publicly funded initiatives aimed at supporting innovation and the knowledge economy.
Iain Cloughley, Business Development Director
Dr Iain Cloughley has over 25 years experience in business start-ups and spin-outs across the life sciences sector and, as a successful scientist and a seasoned business professional, understands and effectively links both communities.
Iain is NSCL’s Business Development Director and looks after the Business Enterprise workstream.
Norma Hope, Assistant Finance Manager
Supporting Phil Pattison, Norma ensures that all of the NSC accounts are up to date and that financial reporting is delivered in a timely and effective way.
Emma Shorman, Performance Manager
Emma oversees responsibility for the delivery of the company’s funding contracts. She has set up and implemented a monitoring and performance management system to report outputs and performance to all NSC funders and stakeholders. She also supports the governance structures of the company by monitoring and record keeping project decisions.
Caroline Findlay, Project Manager
Caroline plans, delivers and controls designated projects in order that they meet the stated aims, and provides project management support to the organisation in order to ensure that all projects are managed effectively and efficiently.
Liz Joyce, Human Resources Manager
Liz develops and implements the Human Resources strategy and Human Resources plan for NSC in order to ensure that the organisation recruits and retains highly effective and highly motivated employees.
Karen Marshall, Education Manager
Karen oversees the Education and Community Engagement project, ensuring that the work delivered by Newcastle Science complements city and region wide strategies. Additionally she identifies and secures external funding to enable the organisation to deliver a diverse range of related programmes and activities.
Nick Powell, Community Engagement Project Manager
Nick co-ordinates a host of community engagement projects designed to raise awareness of Newcastle Science City and encourage participation in a range of science-related activities. Working with the project partners he ensures that the opportunities provided are directly informed and designed by residents to reflect local needs and aspirations.
Helen McLoughlin, Marketing & Communications Manager
Helen oversees responsibility for all communications activity undertaken including; press & PR, campaign delivery, production of marketing literature and website development. She works closely with partners across the region to ensure that NSC messages are communicated at a local, national and international level.
Kay Wilson, Communications Advisor
As a part-time Communications Advisor, Kay works closely with NSC partners to identify joint working opportunities and ensure that strong communication networks are maintained.
Julie Henderson - Personal Assistant to the CEO and Directors of NSC
Julie’s role is to provide a PA support service to the CEO, a secretarial service to the Senior Management Team and develop and implement office procedures in order to ensure the efficient and effective running of the office.
Jo Soulsby, Office Manager
Jo ensures all office and administrative procedures and policies are carried out in order to support the effective and efficient running of Newcastle Science City’s team, office and projects. In addition Jo supports the team with event management and procurement activities.
