  • Science on the shopping list at Gateshead MetroCentre

    Shoppers at Gateshead’s MetroCentre enjoyed a science lesson with their day out as part of Science and Engineering Week. Over 17 different organisations and 230 primary and secondary schoolchildren took part in the science in the malls day which was arranged by The Thomas Hepburn Community School to encourage more people to become interested in science. Various schools put on scientific displays and experiments to showcase their own projects including models of the planets and solar systems and a chance to look at a live sea creatures and the consistency of frozen daffodils.

  • Science City photo winner's big day

    Seven year old Jacob Daglish took 31 of his schoolmates for a free trip to the International Centre for Life as part of his first prize in a Newcastle Science City schools’ photo competition.

    The pupils from Ravenswood Primary School, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne started their big day out with a ‘rubbish’ rocket-making workshop. They all made their own rocket out of paper and launched them to see whose creation went the furthest and Jacob was one of the winners for that as well!

  • Key appointment for Newcastle Science City

    Phil Pattison, 48, from Gosforth has been appointed financial director of Newcastle Science City, a key appointment for the multi-million pound project. His responsibilities include setting up an independent limited company to govern Newcastle Science City’s (NSC) activities and managing the financial elements of the business. Phil will also be involved in NSC’s business development programme by assisting new science ventures on all aspects of financial management and fund raising. His career started with Northern Rock plc, followed by a number of years with Marks & Spencer plc.
