  • Low Carbon Nation

    Peter Arnold, Chief Executive of Newcastle Science City, explains why the city region is well placed to become an economic powerhouse in the UK’s transition to a low carbon nation.

    Tyneside has always been synonymous with world class industrial and manufacturing heritage – it was at the cutting edge of the Industrial Revolution of the 19th Century and it looks set to be a major player in the next revolution, the one that will transform us into a low carbon economy.

  • Pupils team up with university specialists to delve into the appliance of science

    Pupils from schools around Newcastle teamed up with specialists at two city universities last night [10th February 2010] to begin work on problem-solving science projects that will see the youngsters present their findings at the UK’s top science institution, the Royal Society.

  • Antarctic Adventurer visits Newcastle schools

    An Antarctic adventurer has been on a new expedition to share his South Pole science experiences with youngsters in schools in Newcastle.

    Yesterday [Friday 26th February] Andrew Ledger dropped in on Year Nine and Ten pupils at Benfield School to tell them about his experiences trekking to the South Pole as part of the Shackleton Centenary Expedition in 2008-2009.

    The tour, in which Andy has visited six schools, has been co-ordinated through Newcastle Science City’s programme to encourage youngsters to see how science can be used in many different settings.

  • A Day in the life of an Innovation Manager

    A day in the life of… Pradeep Raman, is an Innovation Manager (IM) at the Newcastle Innovation Machine, a development programme at Newcastle Science City that aims to create science-based businesses  that produce products and services that benefit society.

    8am: I’m at my desk and preparing for the day. This means checking actions on my project plans. The big project is to develop my own business by identifying an unmet need in society, and meeting that need with innovative solutions.
