    Pupils team up with university specialists to delve into the appliance of science

    Pupils from schools around Newcastle teamed up with specialists at two city universities last night [10th February 2010] to begin work on problem-solving science projects that will see the youngsters present their findings at the UK’s top science institution, the Royal Society.

    Antarctic Adventurer visits Newcastle schools

    An Antarctic adventurer has been on a new expedition to share his South Pole science experiences with youngsters in schools in Newcastle.

    Yesterday [Friday 26th February] Andrew Ledger dropped in on Year Nine and Ten pupils at Benfield School to tell them about his experiences trekking to the South Pole as part of the Shackleton Centenary Expedition in 2008-2009.

    North East’s most innovative biotech companies celebrated

    A Newcastle company which has developed an advanced system to protect embryos during IVF treatment has won a prestigious award for its innovation.

    Vitro Safe Systems, based at Newcastle University, won the CELS Business for Life Innovation category for its interlinked incubator system designed to protect embryos from external conditions during IVF treatment. It picked up the award at a ceremony held at the Gateshead Hilton in November.

    Heaton School Research Tyne's Shipbuilding Glory

    All of the River Tyne’s proud history of shipbuilding was explored as part of a Heaton Manor School’s Spring science project which was presented to an audience of parents and VIP guests.

    Over thirty 12 and 13 year old students learnt about a wide range of different elements of the river from its wildlife and ecology to the port and what environmental aspects helped to build the huge shipbuilding industry on the Tyne.

    Kielder is out of this world for young Gosforth students

    One hundred and thirty 11 and 12 years old pupils from Gosforth Central Middle School had a science lesson about space which was out of this world at Kielder Water & Forest Park’s Observatory.
