Science City Showcase: See Newcastle’s science come to life

17th May 2011
Scotswood Suite, Centre for Life

Developing electric vehicles and rail cabs of the future. Pioneering cancer treatments tailored to a person’s genetic fingerprint. Creating a way to diagnose disease via mobile phone. Just some of the innovative scientific work under way in Newcastle.

And for one day only the Science City Showcase event, organised by Newcastle Science City, will bring this scientific excellence together under one roof at the Centre for Life’s Scotswood Suite.

Find out more about these fascinating developments by meeting the scientists and researchers who are making the discoveries and getting behind the science through models, films, presentations and experiments. BBC Blue Peter science presenter Steve Mould will be on hand to do demonstrations and explain the science exhibited.

Innovations made on Tyneside for household names including Procter & Gamble, Dyson, Black & Decker, Toyota and BAE Systems will be showcased alongside the work of North East companies and world-leading academics from Newcastle’s scientific growth fields of stem cell & regenerative medicine, ageing & health and sustainability.

The event will run from midday until 5pm on Tuesday, May 17, with free entrance to the Centre for Life visitor attraction. There is also a business event running from 5.30pm until 8pm – to register for the business event email [email protected]
