Institute for Ageing & Health

We are all living longer but to ensure we are all able to enjoy this extra time fully without loss of our independence, Newcastle University’s Institute of Ageing and Health (IAH) has a pioneering research programme.  As one of Newcastle Science City’s flagship projects, the Institute is delivering a wide-ranging series of proposals to help combat problems associated with diseases which can affect elderly people such as dementia and chronic ill-health.

This research is leading Europe in its field and the location for these scientists’ laboratories and facilities is a similarly ambitious vision.

Over £30m has already been invested in the Campus for Ageing and Vitality, located on the Newcastle General Hospital site. This is a joint initiative between Newcastle Hospital NHA Foundations Trust and the Institute for Ageing and Health, to create a unique project.  When the Campus is completed in the next few years, the aim is for it to become a world-leading development, where scientists, businesses and health delivery specialists can work closely together for everyone’s mutual benefit.

Welcome to the future
