Andrew Lewis joined Newcastle City Council in July 2010. He has overall responsibility for the Council’s work to promote economic development, community safety, policy, communications, community and democratic services.
He is the Council’s lead officer for partnership arrangements within and beyond Newcastle; including NewcastleGateshead, the North East Local Enterprise Partnership and Newcastle Science City.
Andrew was Director of the Northern Way between 2007-10, promoting collaboration on economic development, transport, innovation and business growth across the North of England, and leading an extensive research programme. Before 2007 he held a range of senior posts in the Civil Service. He was Deputy Director of the Government Office for the North East 2004-2007, and between 1991 and 2004 was a policy advisor in HM Treasury.
He has also served as a board member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He holds degrees in economics from Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
