Key appointment for Newcastle Science City

Phil Pattison, 48, from Gosforth has been appointed financial director of Newcastle Science City, a key appointment for the multi-million pound project.

His responsibilities include setting up an independent limited company to govern Newcastle Science City’s (NSC) activities and managing the financial elements of the business. Phil will also be involved in NSC’s business development programme by assisting new science ventures on all aspects of financial management and fund raising.

His career started with Northern Rock plc, followed by a number of years with Marks & Spencer plc. In 1989 Phil joined Rolls-Royce plc, working in various roles including project finance where he was involved in raising finance for major capital projects particularly in Argentina and Brazil.

He left this post in 1998 and took on a series of global roles with General Electric PII Pipeline Solutions, including 18 months in Germany and having responsibility for global risk. Whilst at GE, Phil qualified as a Six Sigma Black Belt, driving radical business process improvement in GE operations around the world. Prior to joining NSC he was finance director for DermaSalve Sciences plc.

Phil is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and has an MBA from Newcastle University.

He said: “I am delighted to be able to join NSC at this exciting time and look forward to helping to develop the business. There are many exciting opportunities ahead for NSC and I hope that my experience will help in its next stage of development.”

Married with two children, his hobbies are cycling, swimming and he enjoys walking in the Lake District.
