Michael is an experienced research manager with a track record of delivering innovative and influential research and analysis. As a qualified economist, he has successfully presented policy recommendations to senior audiences, including the Scottish Policy Forum, Employment and Skills Boards and various policy seminars.
With a strong history of publishing influential and respected public policy reports he has extensive experience as a commentator on UK economic development policy. Michael has written submissions to UK parliamentary select committee inquiries, was consulted as part of the cross-departmental Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration and have participated in various national round-table discussions.
Alongside his role at Newcastle City Council. Michael has been a Non-Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Development since 2006, interacting with senior peers to ensure the organisation remains the leading membership body for economic development professionals.
