One of the key regeneration success factors for Newcastle is to create sustainable high-growth science and technology based companies. Newcastle as a Science City is expected to create 500 new companies by 2025.

In our endeavour to support this regional development ambition, our team has developed a Newcastle Innovation Machine project which will create a novel city-wide approach to support this ambitious target. The Newcastle Innovation Machine is a systematic way of identifying unmet needs, identifying solutions to meet those needs, and creating compelling businesses, which can then be financed to become independent.

A pilot project is currently underway for this work which being undertaken by a new Tyneside company, Innovation Scout. They are working with Newcastle Science City to devise and fine-tune this system of researching and analysing these potential business opportunities.

Even though the pilot only started in December last year, there are already a number of innovative ideas which show great potential for wealth creation in Newcastle.

Welcome to the future
