Laura’s role involves planning and delivering high profile communications activity that supports Newcastle’s position as a leading city of science. She handles media relations activity – helping the team build and strengthen relationships with regional, national and trade journalists. Key projects include support for the British Science Festival 2013 and management of PR support for businesses mentored by the NSC team, as well as overseeing NSC’s online presence and social media activity.
Laura has 14 years’ experience of working in the communications industry. Her career began in journalism and she worked as business editor at a busy regional daily newspaper before moving into public relations. She uses her knowledge of both sides of the ‘media fence’ to inform her work. She worked for a large award-winning regional communications agency before going freelance. She has delivered projects for a wide range of public and private sector clients including local authorities, Business Link, the Northern Way, Yuill Homes and De Vere hotels.
