Newcastle Science Company Ltd has recently secured additional ERDF funding to deliver a new project: Enterprise to Business hub (E2B). This project will be delivered in partnership with the Entrepreneurial Development Unit of Newcastle University’s Careers Service where the post holder will initially spend 40% of their time. 60% will be spent with Newcastle Science Company Ltd.
E2B is a virtual hub which provides students and graduates with the financial and human resources to develop high growth businesses.
Based on best practice, E2B will translate student and graduate enterprise activities, into high-growth businesses and jobs for the city and the wider region. The objectives of the project are:
- To create and support high-growth businesses resulting from student and graduate enterprise activities;
- To enhance the student experience in the city-region by providing a highly networked environment for students and graduates to create and grow their businesses;
- To support existing SMEs to access insights, ideas and experience emerging from student and graduate enterprise activities.
You will work as part of the Entrepreneurial Development Unit to embed the E2B project objectives to the Unit’s entrepreneurship support offering, known as Rise Up, in order to create demand and support students and graduates who have committed to start their high-growth potential business.
Your role as the E2B Business Support Manager will be to manage all aspects of the project and to deliver in-depth business development advice to high-growth companies whilst ensuring that the project’s targets and key performance indicators are achieved.
You will manage a portfolio of student and graduate start-ups and established SMEs, and devise the most appropriate and bespoke package of services available through E2B and other projects to support their business development needs and growth. You will also represent E2B on external business focused networks across the city-region.
Clearly an in-depth understanding for the challenges faced by potential high-growth businesses and the support required to overcome these challenges will be essential for this position. The post holder will have extensive experience of working in a private sector environment within a high-growth business and demonstrate success in working as part of collaborative partnerships with a broad cross section of public and private sector stakeholders including Higher Education.
