Parliament under the microscope: A scientific approach to politics is an event hosted by Mr Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon John Bercow MP.

Whilst few MPs are scientists, the House of Commons holds the government to account on a wide range of scientific and technological issues – through debates, questions and committees, as well as in the scrutiny of legislation.

So how can scientists work with MPs to provide expertise on detailed and complex scientific issues, as well as understand the concerns of politicians when they are examining such topics?

Join the Speaker of the House of Commons, as he outlines the ways to work with MPs on Science and Technology issues.

Hear also from Dr Stephen Mc Ginness, Clerk to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee.

This is event is open to scientists, engineers, businesses and community groups with an interest in how Parliament and science interact. It has been arranged in partnership with Newcastle Science City and the Institute of Physics.
