Andrew Lewis joined Newcastle City Council in July 2010. He has overall responsibility for the Councilâ€™s work to promote economic development, community safety, policy, communications, community and democratic services.
He is the Councilâ€™s lead officer for partnership arrangements within and beyond Newcastle; including NewcastleGateshead, the North East Local Enterprise Partnership and Newcastle Science City.
Andrew was Director of the Northern Way between 2007-10, promoting collaboration on economic development, transport, innovation and business growth across the North of England, and leading an extensive research programme. Before 2007 he held a range of senior posts in the Civil Service. He was Deputy Director of the Government Office for the North East 2004-2007, and between 1991 and 2004 was a policy advisor in HM Treasury.
He has also served as a board member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He holds degrees in economics from Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
